Gorgeous 1968 VW Convertible
Manual 4 speed Transmission
University Place, Washington State
Odometer has always worked since I purchased in 2001 and reads 67,611. I am not certain if this correct or not.
This is one fantastic, well cared for convertible bug. Heads turn, lots of smiles from adoring VW fans, never fails to draw a crowd where I go or park.
It has always been garaged in its own separate garage under a custom car cover. No dings or dents. A few minute rock chips in the front hood.
Within the past couple years I have: replaced the brake lines, new exhaust, new rear gas shocks, new front standard shocks. Installed front and rear seatbelts.
Oil has been changed and values adjusted at 1500 mile intervals rather than 3000. Transmission fluids changed every spring when I take it out of storage as it is never driven in winter. Tune ups often just because I enjoy doing it. Even though it wasn’t necessary, I installed a new Sears Diehard Battery and new throttle cable two months ago just for preventative maintenance. Replace the stock poor performing headlights with Sylvania Silverstar High Performance Halogen Headlights that really brightened up the night time driving. Replaced speedometer cable in 2004 again for preventative maintenance.
This car has never seen a drop a rain. It is only driven on clear sunny days as it is much too special to have it get wet. With that said, there is the very beginnings of some surface rust on the door hinge.
The only issue to be aware of is a transmission seal leak. I replaced the swing axle boots but a leak still persists at the housing. To fully correct, this will require pulling the engine and installing a new seal. The transmission is great shape, no slipping or popping, firm and smooth shifting.
Interior is in super shape. Seats have been redone, as has the caperting. Bug floor mats front and back.
This car will bring lots of smiles and will be a joy to you and your family on those sunny afternoon drives. I would like to see someone who truly appreciates the history, culture and joy of life this little cutie represents be its new owner. One who will take care of it always remembering that it hates the rain. She easily crusies at 65 mph with four persons. I have tracked its mpg since I have owned it and average 24 mpg city and 33 freeway.
Tires in great shape with plenty of tread. Body tight with no significant rattles.
Heater and defrost works great. All glass in good shape including the back glass in the convertible top.
Washed and waxed on a regular basis. Always used Carnu-B Brazilian Carnauba Formula Wax, a soft non abrasive wax so there are no swirl marks or minute scratches in the paint.
