1978 VW Super Beetle Bug Convertible Alpine White/White:
$5,801

Up for auction is my fully-restored Super Beetle Convertible. I am reluctantly selling this car as I'm starting a new restoration project. I have had this car since February. The restoration is complete. All the work was done between February and June of last year.
This is a solid car, mechanically sound. New tune-up. New catalytic converter and recent rebuilt engine. New complete pan set (both right and left), powder coated for extra rust prevention. New custom paint job using VW's vintage Alpine White (beautiful creamy color and smooth as a baby's bottom) Color sanded and buffed. New Salt and Pepper colored custom upholstery and restored seating using original black leatherette. New exterior rubber seals and chrome trim. New tires and new brakes. New horn, dome-light, exterior right and left rear-view mirrors. New Kenwood stereo system w/ CD player, and aux plug (Al and Ed's Customsound) with custom speaker/storage housing behind the rear bench seat.

Since I first listed this automobile I have fixed the rear passenger side tail light and license plate lights that were were disconnected during paint job. They needed to be rewired and reconnected. Fuses are replaced. There were two small tears in vinyl top. The interior on passenger side rear headliner needs repair (if you want). The tears are actually about 1" long, side by side, within the diameter of an inch. It seems to me that this tear may have happened when the top was lowered at some point in time - but before my lifetime with this car. Talking about the headliner - it's very tight and otherwise, looks very good.

Recently I purchased personalized plates for the car. You can see them in the photos. This plate was DMV cleared - so at some point in time, MYBUG 78 was surrendered. How cool is that?

As far as I know, this car has not been involved in any accidents. It runs quite nicely, very fun to drive. Heater works fine. It gets a lot of looks and is a great conversation starter. I will also be listing this car on Craigslist and TheSamba and reserve the right to close the auction early if the reserve amount is met. Email me with any questions. I am a longtime ebayer and endeavor to be as honest as I can possibly be. With the additional amount I have just invested in the car, I am keeping the reserve price the same. This car is PICK UP only.
Some additional notes:

When I bought this car, it suffered from the slow-to-fill-the-gas-tank-syndrome. In other words, it wasn't venting properly when it was being fueled. I had changed out all the seals and hoses to no avail. Then ... I remedied this slow-to-fill-the-gas-tank-syndrome. I pulled into a Union 76 gas station that used the STRAIGHT gas nozzle and filled the tank without a problem. Previous to this I was using a curved (Mobil's unleaded) nozzle which, when inserted into the fuel tank neck, curved the opposite way. Hence, the gas pump repeatedly shut down. Also, I was asked by an ebay customer about passing the smog test here in California. When I purchased the car, it was right after Jan 30, the same day a new catalytic converter was installed and it passed the smog test. Smog Tests are good for 90 days. The car already had a new catalytic converter installed, but the owner just let it sit in the garage without driving it - therefore it spewed nothing but dirty fumes, etc. So, when he was selling it to me, we had to have a new converter installed. I have no reason to believe it won't pass a smog test since the 90 days are now up. But I don't want to get it smogged until I have a buyer for the car just in case another 90 days goes by... In which case, if it doesn't pass the smog for whatever reason, I will be responsible for the repairs so it does pass.

Lastly, I have dropped the price significantly as I'm really starting to work on my "new" project. I can use the driveway space. Email me with any questions and I'll get back to you asap.

Good luck!

I've just added some more photos. I've included several of the pans from under the car. They're kind of boring pictures because everything's new - there are no scratches or rust of any kind. The new front and back, left and right, pans have been powder coated for extra rust prevention. I also added another photo of the radio. I had one ebay customer ask about the clock. This car came without a clock. The clock fascia in the dash is still there, untouched. Just so you know, the new radio has a clock so you will get to work on time. I also added a few more pix of the car. I must say that the paint job is beautiful. The body shop who did the work did a very, very nice job. I went by there every day and checked on the progress - while getting to know the gentlemen who worked on the car. If you'd like to see more photos, let me know what of - and I'll take them. Thanks and good luck!

And - this is one great car to drive around during winter, believe it or not - the air is clear and the wind is in your hair!

I have also listed my restored VW 63 I have just sold my '63 Convertible.

I have just added a photo of the tear in the interior top. It measures about 1" and is located above the rear window on the passenger side. This tear was there when I purchased the car so I'm not sure how it happened. Clean tears like this are easily repairable using a tear repair kit that available at any auto parts shop.
